David Ronnefalk confirmed for EOS Austria

Kyosho’s David Ronnefalk has confirmed his entry for the third round of the ‘TLR/Spektrum Euro Offroad Series presented by Horizon Hobby’ in Leoben, Austria on March 8th to 10th. The reigning European 2WD Vice- and Junior-Champion is making his return to the Series after competing in the inaugural EOS race back in 2011. Attending the race in the 2WD and 4WD buggy classes David is someone to watch as he has recently added another podium finish on carpet surface at the highly competitive Swedish Indoor Winter Series to his resume.

Lee Martin confirmed for EOS Round 2

Tamiya Racing Factory’s Lee Martin has been confirmed as an entry for the second round of the ‘TLR/Spektrum Euro Offroad Series presented by Horizon Hobby’ in Langenfeld, Germany on January 4-6. The reigning 3-time back to back European 2WD Buggy Champion was the only driver during the inaugural season of the EOS to beat the champion elect Joern Neumann when he took the 2WD buggy win at the second round in Belgium.

The second race of the four round 2012/13 Euro Offroad Series, the German event has already attracted a record 240+ entries and will see Martin do battle with a growing line-up of factory drivers not just in 2WD & 4WD Buggy but also 4WD Short Course, a class that produced a thrilling race between Durango’s Neumann and TLR’s Dustin Evans at the opening round in Poland, the American eventually taking the win.

Champions of all four classes in the EOS, Team Durango will once again be represented by Neumann, who will be looking to keep his unbeaten record in 4WD Buggy intact, and Hupo Honigl. TLR, who ended Durango’s domination of 4WD Short Course last time out, will continue with Evans, 1:8 Offroad European Champion Darren Bloomfield and Matt Castellano. Evans came close to taking TLR’s first 2WD Buggy win at Round 1 only to get a much debated penalty in Leg 2 of the Main, and the former US National Champion will be out to set the record straight in Germany. The Polish EOS encounter was Castellano’s first time racing on a European style carpet surface track and the American acquitted himself well and should be a lot more competitive in Langenfeld.

Other team entries for Round 2 include Schumacher’s Tom Cockerill, who will debut the company’s new CAT K1 4WD Buggy, factory Kyosho driver Christopher Krapp, who was a finalist on his EOS debut at last season’s finale, and Xray’s Martin Bayer. The latest manufacturer to enter the electric offroad scene with their new XB4 4WD Buggy, Xray are set into increase their presence in the series for Round 3 and 4 with Czech off road ace Bayer set to be joined by 3-time European 1:8 Offroad Champion Renaud Savoya.

Hosted by Langenfeld AMC, the club have secured an all new venue for their first Euro Offroad Series event and series promoters have brought onboard Gerd Strenge to design and build the track for this and subsequent rounds. Strenge’s Langenfeld design features a crossover section, a first time for the EOS, and it has been met with a hugely positive response from competitors.

Austria to host Euro Offroad Series Round 3

With the second season of the ‘TLR/Spektrum Euro Offroad Series presented by Horizon Hobby’ set to get underway this weekend (26-28 Oct) in Poznan, Poland, the series’ organisers are delighted to announce that the 3rd & penultimate round will take place in Austria.  Expanding from three to four events for the 2012/13 season, the EOS’ first ever visit to Austria will take place in the centre of the country in the city of Leoben from March 8-10. As with the Polish and two German events on the schedule, the race will also take place indoors ensuring racers are guaranteed three days of racing irrespective of the weather.

One of three new venues, this weekend’s opening round takes place at the ‘HOBBY Model Making and Games Exhibition’ which is expected to attract up to 30,000 visitors. Poznan successfully hosted the fourth round of last season’s Euro Touring Series as part of one of the country’s largest motor shows and having impressed with their level of organisation they are now aiming to make the same impression on the world of offroad racing. The EOS will be the first major international 1:10 electric offroad event hosted in the country.

Heading the entry will be defending Champion Joern Nuemann, the Team Durango driver having claimed three of the four titles during the inaugural season.  One driver who took the challenge to the German in 2WD Buggy was top American racer Dustin Evans.  Having never raced on anything other than dirt before last season’s EOS, the Team Losi Racing driver adapted quickly to the carpet surface but this time round with experience of European style tracks he should be a serious contender for the 2012/13 title. Set to make his EOS debut this weekend, TLR’s Matt Castellano will also make the trip over from the United States.

Other top entries expected to be involved in the battle for victory at Round 1 are TLR’s new 1:8 Offroad European Champion Darren Bloomfield, Team Durango’s Hupo Honigl, factory Schumacher driver Tom Cockerill and top Swedish racers Oskar Levin & Otto Ausfelt. Like last season the weekend’s programme will be made up of four classes, 2WD & 4WD Buggy and 2WD & 4WD Short Course Truck, with all cars running dBoots tyres who continue as the official controlled tyre supplier for the EOS.

2012/13 EOS Race Schedule
Round 1 – Poznan, Poland (October 26-28)
Round 2 – Langenfeld, Germany (January 4-6)
Round 3 – Leoben, Austria (March 8-10)
Round 4 – Dortmund, Germany (April 12-14)

TLR & Spektrum extend Euro Offroad Series deal

Having backed the successful inaugural season of the Euro Offroad Series, Horizon Hobby have announced that they will continue as title sponsors of the 1:10 electric offroad championship for the 2012/13 season with it to be again known officially as the ‘TLR/Spektrum Euro Offroad Series presented by Horizon Hobby’.  Team Losi Racing have also confirmed that EOS Season 1 regular Dustin Evans will contest the full championship with the 2011 Reedy Race Champion to be joined by top fellow American racer Matt Castellano.

Run over three events in its inaugural year, Season No.2 of the EOS will expand to four races with the opening round taking competitors to the city of Poznan in Poland over the weekend of October 26-28.  Poznan successfully hosted the fourth round of the 2011/12 Euro Touring Series as part of one of the country’s largest motor shows.  For the Euro Offroad Series the host club have organised for Round 1 to take place at the same venue, this time as part of the ‘HOBBY Model Making and Games Exhibition’ which is expected to attract up to 30,000 visitors.

Round 2 will take racers on the first of two visits to Germany with the local club of defending champion Joern Nuemann joining the series and hosting an indoor event in the city of Langenfeld on January 4-6.  While it will be a home event for Team Durango’s Neumann, the venue for the EOS race is all new, meaning the European 4WD Champion will have little advantage over his rivals other than the fact he will be able to enjoy the comfort of being able to sleep in his own bed each night!

With the date for the third round set for the weekend of March 8-10, series promoters Scotty Ernst and Uwe Rheinard are still in talks with a number of clubs regarding the location for the penultimate race with an announcement on the venue expected very shortly.

As in the inaugural EOS, the season finale will again take place in Dortmund, Germany, as part of Europe’s largest consumer hobby show Intermodellbau which in 2012 had an official attendance figure of 88,000 visitors.  The date for the fourth round is April 12-14.

Following a successful partnership with dBoots last season the 2012/13 TLR/Spektrum Euro Offroad Series presented by Horizon Hobby will continue to run dBoots as the controlled tyre for the three classes, 2WD & 4WD Buggy and 4WD Short Course Truck, that will make up the programme at each round.

Registration for the EOS, which also enjoys support from Proline, Vampire Racing, Tonisport and new 2012/13 sponsor Team C, is open for Round 1 and can be made through the MyRCM website – www.myrcm.ch

Champions set for 3-way title showdown at Euro Offroad Series finale

Reigning European 1:10 electric buggy champions Joern Neumann and Lee Martin along with US Champion Dustin Evans are set for a title showdown at the finale of the TLR/Spektrum Euro Offroad Series presented by Horizon Hobby when the trio will battle it out to become inaugural Champion of 2WD Buggy, the new series’ biggest class. Neumann, the European 4WD Champion, won the opening round for Team Durango in the Czech Republic but had to settle for third at Round 2 in Belgian where European 2WD Champion Martin, who along with Evans was making his series debut, took victory for Tamiya ahead of the American TLR driver setting the stage for an exciting climax to the season in Dortmund, Germany, this weekend (20-22 April).

Having already wrapped up the 4WD Buggy title with back to back wins at the preceding rounds, Neumann is out to do a clean sweep of the main EOS crowns on offer at what is a home event for the German ace. In addition to having a strong shot at the 2WD Buggy title he is also in contention for the 4WD Short Course title in which it will be a head to head battle with his Austrian Durango team-mate Hupo Honigl.

Having just kicked off his British National Championship campaign in perfect style over the weekend by TQ’ing and winning both buggy classes, Martin was impressive on his series debut with the Vega converted Tamiya 2WD which he has shown to be a very strong package on high grip tracks. Martin will be joined by his TRF/Speed Passion team-mate Marc Rheinard for the event and although the German World Touring Car Champion is not a regular offroad competitor he is a former European 4WD Buggy Champion so should be able to mix it with offroads top drivers in that class. Interestingly Martin will also contest 4WD Short Course this weekend with a prototype truck from his new 1:8 Buggy sponsors Mugen who look set to enter the electric offroad market having up to now focused only on nitro competitions.

Sampling a European style indoor track and racing on a none dirt surface for the very first time in Belgium, TLR’s Dustin Evans performance was very impressive with the former Reedy Race champion managing a win in the second leg of the A-Main. Having mastered astro turf and the series’ controlled dBoots tyres, he will now be faced with adapting his driving style again this weekend to suit carpet, a surface his rivals know well, but the 26-year-old has already shown that he is a fast learner. Evans must win if he is to be in with a chance of the title and will be looking to his team-mate Mike Truhe for support as he has the benefit of having raced at the opening round in Hrotovice which was held on a carpet track. TLR, who as title sponsors have been instrumental in making the EOS possible this year, will have an increased presence at the season finale with team-manager Kevin Gahan and TLR engineer Dan Hissam, who was responsible for the design of the 22, also making the trip to Dortmund.

Running as part of Europe’s largest consumer hobby show Intermodellbau Dortmund, which is expected to attract over 85,000 visitors, the concluding round of season one of the EOS has attracted just short of 200 entries including an official factory entry from Team Associated. Associated along with TLR, Tamiya, Durango and Kyosho were staunch supporters of the EOS pilot race last year and will be represented for the first time in the actual series by Brent Theilke, the man responsible for managing the World’s most successful offroad race team, along with World Championship finalist Paul Bradby. Apart from his responsiblity for looking after two of the biggest names in the sport, Ryan Cavalieri and Ryan Maifield, Theilke is himself a very competent competitor recently making the A-Main in 2 & 4WD buggy at one of America’s most prestigious international events the Proline Cactus Classic.Associated Sponsors 2012 Race Calendar

Dustin Evans to contest Euro Offroad Series

Current American 2WD Buggy Champion Dustin Evans is to contest the rest of the inaugural TLR/Spektrum Euro Offroad Series presented by Horizon Hobby.  The 26-year-old, who took the then newly launched TLR22 to 2WD victory at the EOS Pilot race in Sweden last year on his first ever visit to Europe, will join fellow American Mike Truhe and Portugal’s Miguel Matias to strengthen Team Losi Racing’s EOS campaign with their main focus being on securing the 2WD Buggy title.

Commenting on the announcement that he will travel to both Belgium next weekend and to the season finale in Germany in April, the former Reedy Race Champion said, ‘I’m super excited about racing in Europe again as the pilot race was awesome.  The track is a surface I have never even seen before so its going to be a new challenge.  Mike (Truhe) has warned me that its going to be a pretty difficult learning curve but by the end of the opening round in the Czech Republic he was able to run on the pace so hopefully together along with Miguel’s (Matias) input we can mount a strong challenge for a win in Charleroi.’

Last month’s opening round of the Euro Offroad Series was dominated by Team Durango’s Joern Neumann who traveled to the Czech Republic fresh from taking over the Reedy Race of Champions title from Evans.  In Belgium the young German will face much tougher opposition not just from the expanded TLR squad but also from Tamiya Racing Factory’s electric offroad ace Lee Martin. The back to back British 4WD National Champion, who successfully defended his European 2WD title last year ahead of the Durango driver, was confirmed for Round 2 last week and coming from the UK has plenty of knowledge of racing on astro turf.  Another British driver who will be looking to mix it at the front at the March 9-11 event is factory Schumacher driver Tom Cockerill, the British Championship front runner having already tasted success at the Belgian venue winning an international event there earlier this year.

Following tests on behalf of official EOS tyre supplier dBoots by leading drivers from the host club, the controlled tyre for Charleroi will once again be the NanoByte.  During the evaluation of a number of different options the NanoByte produced faster lap times than the well known tyre regularly used at the track with the drivers also reporting very good performance even after 40-minutes of running.

Entry is currently open at MyRCM, so if you want to compete against the best in the World at an awesome venue with a great atmosphere then sign up now.
