EOS announces cost reduction tyre ruling

tires_eos

After a hugely successful opening round to Season #5 of the Euro Offroad Series at the famous full size Nurburgring race track in Germany, the championship is pleased to officially announce two changes in relation to the handout Schumacher tyres.  Coming into effect for Round 2, which takes place at the Hudy Racing Arena in Slovakia next month (20-22 Nov), drivers will be limited to two sets of preglued tyres per class.

The implementation of this cost saving limit has been made possible by the introduction of new carpet for the 2015/16 season.  Used at last season’s finale at the Hudy Racing Arena, the carpet has drastically reduced tyre wear and it will now be used at all rounds with its use at the Nurburgring receiving a huge thumbs up from both hobby and team drivers.  The second change applies to the front tyre for 4WD Buggy which will now run Schumacher’s Wide Stagger Rib (U6812). The rear remains unchanged and will continue to be Schumacher’s Minipin (U6792).  Set to make cars easier to drive, the change which was discussed with racers at the season opener, has been widely welcomed by drivers of all levels including reigning champion Lee Martin.

EOS schedule confirmed

EOS schedule confirmed

After a successful first visit to the famous full size Nürburgring racing circuit for the opening round of Season #5 of the Euro Offroad Series, the organisers are delighted to confirm the championship will also conclude at an all new venue.  The fahr(T)raum Museum, a homage to Austrian automotive pioneer Ferdinand Porsche, will host the fourth & final round over the weekend of April 29th to May 1st.  Situated in Mattsee, Austria, the town is no stranger to welcoming R/C racers from around the world having twice been a unique venue for a round of the Euro Touring Series.  Great race hosts, the arrival of the EOS ties in perfectly with May 1st celebrations to throw a racer’s party over the race weekend.

Next on the EOS schedule however is Round 2 at the Hudy Racing Arena in Slovakia on November 20-22.  With the world famous rc venue introducing new carpet at last season’s finale, that led to a breakthrough in reduced tyre wear, the event will kick off the introduction of a new tyre ruling that limits drivers to just two sets per event.  With the Hudy Racing Arena the only venue on the 2015/16 calendar that will be familiar to EOS drivers, then it is onto Round 3 which takes place at yet another ETS host venue – Muelheim-Kaerlich, Germany. Welcoming offroad racers for the first time, it takes place over the weekend of January 29-31.

EOS Season #5 opens at iconic Nurburgring

EOS Season #5 opens at iconic Nurburgring

This weekend (18-20 September) the Euro Offroad Series opens its fifth season at the iconic Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.  Marking the 15th event of the high profile 1:10 electric offroad championship, Round 1 of the 2015/16 season takes place alongside the Nürburgring 1000KM, a round of the full size sportscar Blancpain Endurance Series.  Heading the entry on the EOS’ first visit to the Nürburgring is defending double champion Lee Martin.  Last season in addition to claiming the 2WD Buggy title, the Yokomo driver became the first driver to deny Joern Neumann the 4WD title, the German having held that crown since the creation of the indoor championship.

Building on their success, Yokomo come into the new season with their strongest line up to-date with Martin, who was joined by Marc Rheinard at the season finale, now also having a third high profile team-mate in new American signing Carson Wernimont.  Last season, then driving for Schumacher, Wernimont was Top Qualifier in 2WD at the opening round and he will be looking for a repeat performance this weekend with his new team.

Having joined Serpent halfway through last season’s campaign, the final two rounds a steep learning curve for the championship’s one time dominator, Neumann now has the benefit of having had time with his new cars. Fresh from being crowned German National Champion, he will be more determined than ever to regain his reign as an EOS champion.  Also making the mid season switch to Serpent, rejoining his former Durango team-mate, veteran offroader Hupo Honigl will be looking for the kind of start to the season he had two years ago when he took his first EOS win at the opening round.  Having just clinched the Austrian National titles he travels to German in confident form.

Winner of 4WD  at last season’s closing race, Martin Bayer will be a formidable force heading Xray’s campaign.  For the passed two season’s Bayer has been in title contention at the final round and the Czech ace would like nothing better than to open Season #5 with a win.  One of only four drivers to have won EOS races in both 2WD and 4WD, Bayer will again race alongside Austrian Martin Wollanka.  One very interesting addition to the Xray Offroad team  line-up this weekend is that of their touring car ace and European 1:10 Nitro Champion Bruno Coelho.

The star of Season #4, winning 2WD at the season finale before going on to become European 4WD Champion, Michal Orlowski heads Schumacher’s quest for an EOS title.  Having given the British manufacturer, which also supplies the handout tyre of the EOS, their first win the 14-year-old comes into his first full season with Schumacher as a serious championship contender.  Racing alongside Orlowski will be experienced Austrian Peter Pinisch who is also in his first full season with the team.

Expected to debut a new 2WD Buggy at the season opener, David Ronnefalk carries the hopes of HB.  Always fast, the Swede had a disappointing Season #4 results wise but with a full year of development time with his new Japanese team’s cars under his belt he will be looking to make amends for last season and try to get that win that has eluded him.  A man who has played a pivotal role in Ronnefalk’s successful 1:8 Offroad career, tuning his Orion engine, Adrien Bertin will be his protege’s team-mate when the former 1:8 and 1:10 Onroad World Champion Adrien Bertin makes his EOS debut. It is expected that the Frenchman will have plenty of questions for the 19-year-old.

EOS Season #5 to open at Nürburgring 1000KM

EosRd1

On the back of its double champion Lee Martin regaining his 2WD European Championship title and its very own Michal Orlowski claiming his first European Championship title with victory in 4WD, the organisers of the Euro Offroad Series are delighted to announce the date for the opening round of what will mark Season #5 of the popular 1:10 indoor offroad championship. An earlier start than had been tradition in previous seasons, the Round 1 date of September 19-21 is due to the EOS being invited to race at the world famous Nürburgring in Germany on the same weekend as the Nürburgring 1000KM, a round of the full size sportscar Blancpain Endurance Series. The EOS, which will again run over 4 rounds, is also pleased to announce that race winning manufacturers Xray, Schumacher & Yokomo together with front runners Serpent have already committed as primary sponsors of the upcoming season. Full details of the 2015/16 EOS schedule will be announced shortly.

4WD title showdown at EOS finale

4WD title showdown at EOS finale

Season #4 of the Euro Offroad Series reaches a climax this weekend in Slovakia with the Hudy Racing Arena playing host to the season finale where attention will focus on the 4WD title showdown. With Team Yokomo’s Lee Martin securing his first EOS title when he successfully defended the Japanese manufacturer’s 2WD crown at Round 3 in Austria, the British driver will this weekend attempt to do the double. The only driver to have ever done the double Joern Nuemann is his title rival, the now Serpent team driver having held reign of the 4WD class since the championship was first started in 2011. With the previous three rounds producing three different winners, on current form it is Martin, winner last time out who looks strongest as Neumann, a dominant force with Team Durango, still gets to terms with his new Serpent.

While Neumann and Martin’s focus will be on their title battle, the race has attracted a world class entry with a number of drivers using the event as preparations for the World Championships that will take place in Japan later this year on an indoor artificial track surface. Team Associated’s core offroad team will make the trip from the US with multiple World Champion Ryan Cavalieri and the team’s new up & coming star Carson Wernimont. Joined too by designer Kody Numedahl and team manager Brent Thielke, both accomplished racers, this will be Cavalieri’s second time to race in the EOS having experienced the European carpet style tracks during Season #2. Wernimont has had more recent EOS outings and at this season’s opening race while driving for Schumacher he became the first American to TQ a round when he topped 2WD qualifying in Poland.

The race will mark two interesting new team driver debuts as Naoto Matsukura, winner of the season opener with Yokomo makes his return to the series with Kyosho. His Tamiya touring car team-mate Marc Rheinard rejoins former TRF offroad team-mate Lee Martin at Yokomo. Matsukura took a podium in Trencin last year but for Rheinard this will be his first experience of offroad at the Hudy Arena.

The home of the Xray team, last year saw Martin Bayer do the double, winning both 2WD and 4WD at the event. The Czech driver, who went into the Season#3 finale in Austria with a chance of the title, has not enjoyed the same level of competitiveness this season but will be determined to put that right this weekend. The Hudy Arena, famed for its attention to detail, have made a major investment in new carpet specifically for the hosting of the EOS. The carpet tiles are similar to those used at the last EOS encounter held at the Wels Hobby Show in Austria with the durable surface proving very popular with racers.
